There it was, my opportunity to be face to face with Zig Ziglar and have a conversation.
The one and the same, author of “Secrets of Closing The Sale” among numerous other Titles, Audios and videos. One of the masters on the importance of mindset, planning, goal setting and inspiration.
One of my favorite Zig Ziglar quotes is –
“You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.”
Carrie Wilkerson, The Barefoot Executive, hosted her BOSS event in Dallas, Texas and this is where I was going to meet, sit with and chat with Zig Ziglar.
The moment was approaching quickly for me to sit next to Zig Ziglar. What would I say? I had listened to his audios and read his books since I was in my early teens. And now, here he was, sitting a few feet away from me.
When I sat down, after saying hello and how wonderful it was to have the opportunity to meet him and how much he had influenced me. I decided to chat about a few of his contemporaries. Zig smiled and just said to me: “You know, you must always be learning.” Zig Ziglar is still as smart as they come and truly inspirational.
Every one of us owe ourselves the mentoring and coaching available to us to stretch us and to pull us upwards toward our big goals and big dreams. If you think back to one of your first experiences with someone who had a real impact on your life and now you have the opportunity to meet with them, what would you say to them?
In closing, another great quote from Zig Ziglar –
“Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.”

I would be tongue tied Mitch. So happy you had this opportunity!
Lynn
Lynn,
It was definitely one of those moments filled with excitement, shock and being nervous.
I was happy to have the opportunity of meeting a mentor and to capture the moment with a few photos.
Mitch
Cool!
I felt the same way, Lynn, when I got to meet John Wooden. What a generous man!
Grace,
Wow! You met John Wooden. Hopefully you had a chance to chat.

I just love these quotes by Zig and love the memories this post has invoked – got me thinking about some very special people who have had a huge impact on my life and what a difference they have made.
Trudy
Trudy,
Yes, sometimes these special moments meeting someone, especially a mentor you have looked up to for a long time, bring up thoughts and memories from our past.
Mitch
Meeting someone who inspires you or has had a huge impact on our life is like meeting a celebrity, it is exciting and nerve-racking.
If I don’t have the opportunity to meet someone I admire in person, I imagine talking with them and journal about imagined conversations related to life and business. It is a great exercise in stretching your mind!
Laura,
I love your practice of imagining and writing in your journal the conversation.
Mitch
How very cool you got to meet “the man.” Love your story!
Sue P.
Sue,
Thanks Sue, yes meeting the ‘man’ a mentor for so many of us was way cool.
Mitch
I love Zig! I hope that I, too, get to meet him one day. I think I would ask him about his #1 piece of advice for success. And I’d have a recorder ready to capture it!
Carmen,
Great idea! You must act on your wish.
Mitch
