Do You Take Action?

There is something about taking action that stirs things up. Yet often, the taking action part, does not happen at all or if it does, it is not soon enough.

There is a story in an email going around, maybe you saw it, where Jack Canfield refers to his speaking engagements where he is standing on the stage with a $100 bill in an outstretched hand. “Who wants this?” He asks the audience. Many people raise their hands. At some point a person from the audience gets up on the stage and takes the $100 bill from his hand. The person from the audience took action.

My question is what stopped everyone else from taking this specific action? Was it a behavior model drilled into their heads for years – “No, No, No – you don’t get up in the middle of a show or presentation and go up on the stage!” What was the reason? Would you have stood up and gone up to Jack Canfield on the stage and taken the $100 bill from his outstretched hand? Write your comment in the comments section.

Please do not scoff at the notion that we were not brainwashed to some extent in our younger days. Of course much of what many of us were taught turned us into good citizens.

phone booth“Respect your elders.”

“Help those in need.”

“Give up your seat to a pregnant woman.”

However, some other often heard statements, upon reflection, make me wonder?

“The Early bird gets the worm?”

“Good things come to those who wait?”

“Speak when spoken to?”

“Always carry some change with you for the pay phone?”  (Do these even exist anymore?)

How about you? Were there certain phrases or often heard statements which you may need to consider over-coming the impression they made upon you?

Positive Affirmations are a great way to overcome negative thoughts or past ideas in our heads. Read this article on creating Positive Affirmations. Another way to stir up activity and move past lingering negativity is to take action. Even the action of setting one or two goals would be a great step. Write the goal or goals out on index cards and have these with you all day.

Enter these goals on your laptop, send the goal or goals to yourself in an email. Place a date and a time next to each of the goals for when you are going to achieve it. Tell others you know about your goal or goals and why it is important to you and when you are going to achieve them. You might be able to tell there is much more to come in terms of goal setting and attaining goals. The point is, it starts with taking the action!

Is there something you should be taking action on and you have not? Why not? Let’s go!

Business Success Tip – Taking Action or Taking Notes?

Business SuccessYou want to get something done, you do it. You take action, right?

Here is the thing; one of my main ingredients when someone seeks out my advice is to determine if they are an action taker or a note taker. Let’s face it, some people feel they need to learn more, take more notes, read more books, obtain more certifications, and they just never take action. The people who take action are always high on my list of the people for me to work with and create the opportunities for them to work with me. Of course there are opportunities for the note takers to work with me as well, mostly to inspire in them the interest in becoming action takers sooner than never.

This is not to say it is not important to learn more, take notes, read books or obtain certifications. It is to say you need to start and take action on your objectives. You may always continue on with the rest as you are moving along your path. Show me a bank who accepts a notebook filled with notes for your mortgage payment. You must take action to build your business, grow your business or achieve whatever objectives you have set for yourself and your business.

Here is the problem. Uh-oh, a flip-flop is coming? Correct. There are some people who feel they need to be busy. Busy, busy, busy and just busy. This might be a more difficult issue to deal with than the person who is the note taker!

A full day may just evaporate as this person is so busy answering their emails, deleting spam and going through messages. Meanwhile they may have missed a networking event, did not focus on returning a half dozen potential lead phone calls and did not speak with a key vendor for a project they are estimating costs for.

Another person may spend two or three hours or more each and every single day interacting on social media. When you ask them about this activity, they may respond that they are marketing their business on social media. When you sit with them and review their activity the truth is much different.

The reality is, being busy is not taking action toward defined objectives. The exact action steps required of you and your team must be defined and written out. This may evolve as time moves forward as your objectives may evolve as well. The point is, you and your team are moving together toward specific objectives. It is not being busy. The act of being busy is a stalling technique. This may be a subconscious behavior. Often it is from fear. The actual fear of stepping out and going for your dreams and goals.

This is an entire topic of it’s own and will be discussed in a future article and teleseminar. The point here is this, take specific action, which you have defined, toward your exact objectives, goals and dreams.

Business Success Tip: When an Opportunity Presents Itself – It Is Too Late To Prepare

My friend, John C. Maxwell, mentioned to me the other day, “when an opportunity presents itself, it is too late to prepare.” John is a master at saying so much with few words. You must invest the time, the effort, the money, and constantly grow your knowledge base to be ready.

There are so many people who attend a workshop or study a course, and weeks later the binders, the materials, the notes and the contacts are virtually forgotten. The binders are on the shelf next to last year’s binder. The materials are labeled and then boxed or filed.
The notes are left on a hotel room table or on the flight home. The contacts met are not nourished into new relationships.

You must, with intention, set into action a number of steps to continue along the path of success and to flourish in your growth. Consider the quote from John C. Maxwell and take his tip to heart. Determine how to apply this action to your business.

Another tip is to share your new experience with others, specifically in your networking. When it is the appropriate time for you to share a few words about yourself in conversation, discuss the workshop, the course, and the areas of growth you have recently achieved. The key point is – add the exact way you will utilize this newly acquired information to serve your clients with more value, “To serve your clients with more value”. Consider what this statement means to the person who is listening and hearing what you said. You are the type of person who is willing to take the time and the effort, and you invest in yourself to grow your knowledge base in order to provide your clients with greater value. This is a valuable differentiator and a memorable one.

You will have created the reason that you stand out and apart from others in your field.

Are you ready to put into action your newly acquired knowledge and your personal and business growth? You want an expert to assist you in the process as a sounding board and a second set of eyes or a trusted advisor? Contact Mitch Tublin today
