Resurrection Time For Your Purpose, Passion and Planning in Business and Life

Are you just going through the motions? You may have started your own business ten years ago, ten months ago or ten weeks ago and you now find yourself in a rut of your own creation.

businessplanningYou need to resurrect your purpose, passion and your planning in your business and life.

This means you need to take the actions necessary to bring back into practice, or to use in a sense a revival of your spirit, why you wanted to be in your own business in the first place.

A book may be written about how you find yourself in this situation. One example is you have something you are passionate about and you start a business around it. As you become successful you hire staff and personnel to work for you. Now you find yourself spending most of your time managing people and the business and not working in the area of your passion. In fact, before you never viewed this as work. Now you do.

You spend many hours each day involved in the areas of your business you do not really enjoy working on. You arrive home to your family and most days the kids are already in bed. Your relationship with your spouse resembles two ships passing in the night.

Make an appointment with yourself. Take one hour or two hours and shut down all distractions which include, but are not limited to your cell phone, iPod, laptop, TV, iPad, and anything else which talks, makes noises, music or sounds.

What is your purpose? Write.Yes use a pen or a pencil and paper. Do you know something magical happens when we write with our hand on paper? It is almost as if there is a connection formed when our hand writes, our eyes see it, and our brain looks at what we wrote down and interprets the words. Magical.

Business and Life – What is your purpose? Write.

What are you passionate about? Write.

In Business and Life – What are you passionate about?  Write.

Go back now and read aloud what you wrote. Consider if you need to add or change anything. My preference is you add more.

What is your plan? Write. Huh?

Okay we just wrote down our purpose and our passion. We already know we have moved away from these in our current daily existence. How do we get back on track?

How do we get back to living life?

Let’s develop your plan to make this happen together – right now.

Make the World Better, Good for you and Good for Business

Business“To Try to make the world in some way better than you found it is to have a noble motive in life.”  –  Andrew Carnegie

If this quote resonates with you, is there some way in your business, or in your free time, that you might be able to incorporate something toward meeting this interest?

This might be by volunteering to work with an organization which is aligned with your views and works toward these types of causes. At another level you might be the one to create a group which conducts the work you feel needs to be done.

For example, you might seek out a group which is leading the way toward green initiatives in your region. Everything from solar heating systems to green building materials. Typically there are events, gatherings and networking of these folks and certainly they would welcome another volunteer.

If you are a part of a larger company or organization would you be able to create a better and deeper recycling program within the organization locally and out into the other office locations. Potentially discuss with the purchasing department the cost of buying recycled coffee cups and other paper goods.

On a completely different approach, which is to mentor and guide under privileged youth. Is it possible to either set up groups of people to match up on both sides or to at least become one of the mentors for a young person?

For example, if you are part of a larger organization you might coordinate initiatives throughout the community where a day is spent on a regular basis with mentors and groups of young people who are in need of quality mentors.

These suggestions are by no means the be all and end all. These are suggestions to get the conversation started. Rattle the cage of the summer mind back in tune with, Yes, Big Picture Now – Your Vision, Purpose, and Goals.

You have thought up some big ideas and some big plans for yourself at some point haven’t you? Where have these been hiding? It is time to break these out.

One further thought on this concept. It is not the reason to do any of these items, however, since you will be doing something. Utilize the marketing tools available and let people know what you are doing and why you are doing it. It is important. It is not a self serving attitude to beat the drum. It is actually a wise way to conduct oneself. You just never know who will read about it or hear about it and then what transpires from this contact.

Think of what interests you and how to leave your fingerprint on making something better than it was before you touched it.

Have You Looked In The Mirror Lately?

“You must ‘be’ before you can ‘do’ or ‘have'”.   ~ Paul J. Meyer

Business Ever take the time to allow your mind to relax?  For me the sound of the ocean and walking in the sand is about as relaxing as it gets.  Your mind is wandering and thoughts seem to drift in and out.  What happens after this is a complete gift.  Once your mind is in the completely relaxed state without the daily distractions of email, cell phones and more, you have the opportunity to honestly appraise yourself.  Just “be”.

“Ok Mitch, uh be who, or be whom?”   Exactly!

“Okay, so what are you saying to do?”  Look at yourself in the mirror!

No, this is not about how you look in your bathing suit! Or it very well might be. It is about who are you, what is it you want to achieve, what is your thing, really. Not the armored up version of you which you present yourself as, rather the real deal your real mission and purpose.  Then continue, what are you doing about it?  Are you living and acting in harmony with this answer?  Would your family, friends and co-workers agree with these statements and agree this is how you show up each and every day?

It is actually never too late to start. If the reality is not consistent with your desired self what actions might you begin to take to turn this around?  The idea is to begin slowly.

This is habit change and behavior change.  Similar to a fad diet, if you drastically try to change everything you might be successful in the short term, yet there will not be lasting change.  Write everything down you are not satisfied with about yourself.  Rate these and prioritize the list.  Begin with the items which are the most important to you or will have the most significant impact.

Record what action you are taking next to the current habit or behavior you do not like.

Check in often with yourself to confirm you are in fact taking these actions and making these strides. When creating habit change and behavior change it has been proven that the most lasting method for implementing these is to have a coach or an accountability partner or both.  Through a schedule where you are meeting with each other at least each week or two on time and on schedule will assist greatly in a positive outcome.
